Smoked Cream Cheese on the Weber | AUSSIEQ BBQ

Whilst I do not know the history of the tastiest dip known to mankind, I can tell you that this simple smoked cream cheese "hack" will have you coming back for more. Firstly, we thank the French for inventing cream cheese way back in 1035 AD. I first tried smoked cream cheese when Mrs Q wanted something different for a tasting platter, she was making for a party a few years back. Back then I wrapped some prosciutto around it and glazed with smoked honey. Omitting the prosciutto was simply a way to cut down time as I couldn't be stuffed!

The combination of cream cheese, Oz Dirt rub, honey and kiss of smoke was bloody amazing! It has a Burger Ring familiarity but so much more complex. You could even serve this as a vegetarian dish and keep everyone happy.

Do you remember the viral baked feta cheese dish that had TikTok and Instagram salivating? This stupidly simple dish is just as satisfying, but so easy you could time the cook by the number of beers you sink.

If you don't have a way of smoking the cream cheese, it would work perfectly well in your oven or air fryer at a low temp.

INGREDIENTS:

  • 2x tbsp Oz Dirt BBQ rub
  • 1x block of Aldi or Philadelphia cream cheese
  • 1x tbsp honey

METHOD:

STEP 1

Use a sharp knife and cross cut the block of cream cheese. This will allow maximum coverage of the BBQ seasoning. Apply an even coat of Oz Dirt rub on all sides of the cream cheese.

STEP 2

Fire up your smoker and set to 250F/121C. I used my Weber Go Anywhere to smoke the cheese as it's small and gets to temp very quickly.

STEP 3

Place the cream cheese in an alfoil "boat". This will stop it from melting all over your grill grates. I formed the alfoil around the block whilst it was still in its cardboard packaging.

STEP 4

Smoke your cream cheese for approx 60 mins, more until a slight golden tinge of colour forms around the edges. Just keep an eye on it, as you don't want it to turn into a puddle that resembles seagull poo! At this point drizzle some honey over the top and cook for a further 5 mins.

STEP 5

Mix the smoked cheese in the alfoil boat (to save on doing the dishes!), or place in your finest dipping bowl.
